Impressions

There really are millions of people here, but the mood is joyous.

Business seems slow for restaurants in the district.

Capitol Hill was very quiet yesterday afternoon, until the Lincoln Memorial concert ended. Then waves of pedestrians started to roll down the main streets, but there was no pushing, no tempers. Reports are that the Metro is doing a fantastic job. We've been walking and haven't tried to ride yet.

Commercialism has run amok. Every store is an "official inaugural headquarters." At the Harris Teeter supermarket, this means a display of books about Obama and inflatable mattresses for you out-of-town company.

Haven't personally spotted a celebrity, yet.
